Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared in film and on television, and in stage productions, is known for her role as Teri Joseph, a fiery lawyer in the show Showtime's Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. As a child within Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. Contractor is a Mumbai-born Indian living in Nigeria since she was seven years old, was well-versed in the world's cultures, and traveled extensively even at a very young age. Contractor was a student and a dancer of classical style in Toronto. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts which was a highly specialized high school that taught more than just dance but also theatre. At the age of 16, after nearly 10 years of dancing, Contractor discovered she was looking to take up acting as a profession. After she completed high school and was awarded an all-inclusive tuition grant to the University of Toronto where she pursued theatre studies with a double diploma in sociology and psychology. Contractor auditioned at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After an entire year, she was awarded the role of lead. In 2002, Canadian critics praised her performance in 92 productions of the play. Contractor accepted the invitation to attend Stratford's Conservatory program. The Conservatory has only 8 men and four females are admitted for the 20-week course in classical theater. Contractor's place in the following production was secured, and she won the role of Hermia.
